Some of these locations are New York, Atlanta, Singapore, Chicago, London, Amsterdam, etc. The company works under three subsidiaries - ICE, NYSE and ICE Data Services.
It provides its services to public companies, traders, data users, risk managers and clearing members. ICE holds ownership to several exchanges for commodity and financial markets and operates 12 exchanges and regulated market places. Some of these are Liffe futures exchanges in Europe, ICE futures exchanges in Canada, Europe and the United States, the New York Stock Exchange, etc. The company's central clearing houses are ICE NGX, ICE Clear US, ICE Clear Netherlands, ICE Clear Singapore, ICE Clear Europe and ICE Clear Credit.
The company was established on 11th May 2000 by Jeffrey C. Sprecher, aided by companies like BP, Total, Goldman Sachs, Morgan, etc. Within two decades, ICE has managed to merge and acquire some of the greatest companies such as International Petroleum Exchange (2001), New York Board of Trade (2005), Winnipeg Commodity Exchange (2007), Creditex and TSX Group's Natural Gas Exchange (2008), Climate Exchange (2010), NYSE Euronext (2013), SuperDerivatives Inc (2014), Interactive Data Corporation (2015), Standard & Poor's Securities Evaluations (2016), BofA Merrill Lynch Global Research Index Platform (2017), Chicago Stock Exchange (2018), Simplifile, LC in 2019, Ellie Mae (2020), etc.
It trades in the New York Stock Exchange under the trading symbol ICE. It is an S&P 500 component and a Forbes Global 2000 company as of 2020. In 2020, Fortune recognized ICE in 2 of its lists - Fortune 500 and Future 50.;
