IBM was established as the Computing-Tabulating-recording Company in 1911 that got renamed to International Business Machines in 1924. Since then the company has invented devices like magnetic strip cards, floppy disks, hard disk drives, SQL programming language, relation database, UPC barcode and dynamic random-access memory. It started to expand with substantial acquisitions from 2002 and acquired companies such as PwC, SPSS Inc., SoftLayer Technologies, Red Hat, Ustream, Merge Healthcare, etc.
