International Business Machines Corporation, commonly known as IBM, is a multinational technology and consulting company. It is headquartered in Armonk, New York, and as of 2020 has over 383,800 employees working in more than 170 countries worldwide. Few of IBM’s offices are located in cities like Manhattan, Beijing, Chennai, Hyderabad, Johannesburg, Yamato, Paris, Gurugram, Toronto, Munich, Kolkata, Tokyo, Ontario, Delhi, etc. The company provides its services to 19 different industries like electronics, healthcare, insurance, education, consumer goods, automotive, aerospace and defence, banking and financial market, telecommunication, metals and mining, manufacturing, etc. IBM services support all of the world’s largest banks and almost every world-class automotive companies. The company acquired about 1,400 AI patents and 1,900 cloud patents within a single year. It offers products and services under three segments that are general services, business needs and technologies. Some of these are blockchain, finance, cloud service, analytics, human resources, security, digital workspace service, marketing and sales, collaboration, artificial intelligence, network services, etc. The company also provides hardware products like servers and storage devices to its clients. Some of these hardware products are all flash storage, power system, tape storage, IBM Z, mainframes, data protection, scalable servers, etc. To support these devices, it also offers server software and different types of solutions. IBM further offers solutions regarding AI, DevOps, big data analytics, high performance computing and the like. The company’s latest offerings are IBM Data Privacy Passport, IBM Z Monitoring Suite, IBM Power Systems Virtual Servers and IBM Z Decision Support for Capacity Planning. IBM was established as the Computing-Tabulating-recording Company in 1911 that got renamed to International Business Machines in 1924. Since then the company has invented devices like magnetic strip cards, floppy disks, hard disk drives, SQL programming language, relation database, UPC barcode and dynamic random-access memory. It started to expand with substantial acquisitions from 2002 and acquired companies such as PwC, SPSS Inc., SoftLayer Technologies, Red Hat, Ustream, Merge Healthcare, etc. As of 2020, it is a component in indices such as S&P 100, S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average. The company stocks trade in the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol IBM. It is one of the top 50 companies in the 2020 Fortune 500 as well as Fortune World’s Most Admired Companies list.;
