Henry Schein, Inc. is an American company providing solutions in healthcare products and services. It was founded in 1932. The company is headquartered in Melville, New York, United States. Henry Schein shares began trading on the NASDAQ Stock Exchange in 1995 under the ticker symbol of HSIC. HSIC stocks are also included as a component on the S&P 500 stock market index.
The company operates through three business units, namely dental, medical and technology & value-added services. Its dental segment stood as the only global dental distributor to general practitioners, specialists and laboratories. Henry Schein's Medical segment is a leading distributor to multiple health care sectors, such as public safety, government, and ambulatory surgery centres, among others. Its Technology & Value-Added Services is engaged in practice management software, patient demand generation solutions and patient relationship management solutions for dental practices. Over the years, the company has entered into several acquisitions and expanded its business operations. In 1997, Henry Schein acquired a total of 17 companies including Sullivan Dental Products, Inc., for a purchase price of approximately $318 million. This merger made HSIC the world's largest distributor of dental equipment and supplies. Subsequently, it bought-off Micro BioMedics, Inc. and Dentrix Dental Systems. In 2004, HSIC acquired demedis GmbH and Euro Dental Holding GmbH ("the demedis Group").
In 2009, the company announced a joint venture with Butler Animal Health Supply and launched the Butler Schein Animal Health as the largest veterinary sales and distribution company in the US. This company was later rebranded to Henry Schein Animal Health in 2013.
In 2020, Henry Schein ranked 304th on the list of Fortune 500 companies. Forbes included the company in its lists of Global 2000 and World's Best Employers 2020.;
