About the Company

Headquartered in Austin, Minnesota, Hormel Food Corporation is a processed food manufacturing and marketing company. With more than 20,000 employees, it is offering its products to over 75 countries across the globe. The company primarily focuses on packaging and marketing products made out of ham, sausage, pork, beef, lamb, etc. As of 2020, it offers over 50 brands under its name like Hormel Bacon 1, Real Bacon Toppings, Premium Chicken Breasts, Applegate, happy Little Plants, Lloyds Barbeque, Hormel Fuse Burger, Wholly Guacamole, Spam, Side Dishes, Mary Kitchen Hash, Hormel Gatherings, Don Miguel, Hormel Health Labs, Dinty Moore, Columbus Craft Meats, etc. George A. Hormel founded Hormel in 1891 and named it George A. Hormel & Company. In 1926, the company developed the first-ever canned ham in the world. Its most iconic brand - Hormel Spam was introduced in 1937, following which it founded the Hormel Institute, producing sustenance for American soldiers in World War II. In 1959, it became the first meatpacker to get the Seal of Approval from the American Humane Society for their practice of using anaesthetics before slaughtering animals. During 1973, it also became the first to add nutritional labels on the packaging of its meat products. Over the next few decades, it expanded its business by acquiring companies like Jennie-O Foods, The Turkey Store, Applegate Farms, Justin’s, Columbus Manufacturing, etc. It started trading in the New York Stock Exchange in 1990 under the ticker symbol HRL. The company finally changed its name to Hormel Foods Corporation in 1993 in order to accurately reflect its presence in the industry. As of 2020, it is one of the components under the S&P 500 index. Hormel Foods Corporation has been a Fortune 500 member for over two decades, and as of 2020, it is the 337th company on that list. In 2020, Forbes has also recognised it under two lists, namely Global 200 and America’s Best Employers By State. For 12 years, the company has also consecutively maintained a position in the United States’ list of 100 Best Corporate Citizens.;
