Established in 1866, Huntington Bancshares Incorporated is a bank holding company ranking 37th in the list of United States' largest banks. Headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, this company serves the people of West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Kentucky. It operates through its banking subsidiary called The Huntington National Bank in these locations. It has over 15,600 employees working in its 920 operations across these seven US states. The company provides services related to banking, borrowing, insurance and investments to personal, commercial, business and private bank clients. It also provides services like equipment leasing, trust services, mortgage banking services, customised insurance brokerage and service programs, wealth and investment management services, brokerage services and treasury management and foreign exchange services. This public company is an S&P 500 component that trades under the ticker symbol HBAN in the NASDAQ stock exchange. It is one of the largest originators of Small Business Administration loans as of 2020. P.W. Huntington founded it as the P.W. Huntington & Company, but it was not until 1905 that The Huntington National Bank of Columbus was incorporated. In 1922 Federal Reserve System provided it with full trust powers and following that it purchased Hayden-Clinton National Bank of Columbus and State Savings Bank & Trust Company. This purchase marked the beginning of the numerous acquisitions conducted by the company over the years. Some of the most notable acquisitions made by Huntington are The Washington Savings Bank in 1967, The Portage National Bank in 1971, Alexandria Bank Company in 1981, Union Commerce Bank 1983, First Michigan Bank Corporation in 1997, Unizan Financial in 2006, Sky Financial Group Inc. in 2007, Macquarie Equipment Finance in 2015, and TCF Bank in 2020. Huntington Bancshares entered the Fortune 500 list at 500 in 2020. However, Forbes has recognised its efforts for years with spots in lists like America's Best Employer in 2017 and Best Employers for New Grads in 2019. In 2020, the company made it into three of its lists, namely Best Employers for Women, America's Best Employers By State and Best Employers for Diversity.;
