About the Company

General Motors Company is a Detroit, Michigan based multinational corporation that manufactures, markets, designs, and distributes vehicles/vehicle parts alongside offering financial services. The company has 164,000 employees as of 2020, over 85,100 of whom work in the United States and the rest across the six continents. In the US, it has 118 facilities and about 4,092 dealers. In 2019, it had delivered 2,885,405 vehicles in the country and had a dealership in every state of the US. It has four core brands, namely Cadillac, Buick, Chevrolet and GMC and 23 other brands under its name. In these 23 brands, there are Motor Holding, Cruise, Onstar, ACDelco, GM Defence, GM Marine, GM Ventures, Heritage Center etc. The company also has a loyalty program called My GM Rewards that lets one earn points by availing services and purchasing products from General Motors and then redeeming them on their future purchases. It is also the only company that offers fully integrated solutions for producing self-driving vehicles at a substantial scale. As of 2020, it has about 24 subsidiaries across the world such as GM Financial, FAW-GM, GM Defence, GM Certified Service, DMAX, GM Brazil, GM Components Holdings, Baojun, HSV, GM Mexico, CAMI Automotive etc. General Motors is a component in both the S&P 100 and S&P 500 indices, and trades in the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol GM. In 2010, GM made an Initial Public Offering (IPO) that is considered to among the top five till date. The parent company of General Motors was founded on 16th September 1908, but on 10th July 2009, its new reorganized company was established. The old company’s primary acquisitions were Buick and Oldsmobile in 1908. After that, it acquired companies like Reliance Motor Truck Company, Cadillac, Elmore, Rapid Motor Vehicle Company, etc. It ranks 18th in the 2020 Fortune 500 list. Fortune has also recognised GM in its 2020 Global 500 and World’s Most Admired Companies indices. Forbes has awarded it positions in 8 of its 2020 lists and one of its 2021 list of Just Companies. Few of these 2020 lists include Best Employers For New Grads, Best Employers For Veterans, Global 2000, America’s Best Employers By State, etc.;
