Ford Motor Company, popularly known as Ford, is one of the largest automobile manufacturing companies in the world. It is headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan and as of 2020, had a workforce of more than 190,000 employees across the globe. This multinational company has operations located in every region of the world like Brazil, China, Russia, Taiwan, Romania, India, United States, Germany, Argentina, Slovakia, France, Mexico etc.
The company manufactures vehicles for both commercial and personal use under four categories - trucks & vans, cars, SUVs & crossovers, and electrified. It offers five different types of power sources in its vehicles, like EcoBoost, gas, electric, etc. Ford also offers five types of vehicle styles like sedan, hatchback, convertible etc. Few of its best-selling vehicles include 2020 F-150, 2020 Fusion, 2020 Escape. Ford was founded by Henry Ford in 1903, but its origin dates back to 1896 when he invented the Quadricycle. After that, he worked in the Detroit Automobile Company in 1899 for a year before incorporating Ford Motor Company. At that time, it only had 12 investors and a cash investment of $28,000. Five years from that, it introduced the most famous car of all time, Model T and sold 15 million of them within 19 years.
In 1922, Ford made its first acquisition - the Lincoln Motor Company. Over the years, it introduced some famous vehicle models such as Zypher, Mercury, F-series, Thunderbird and some other brands. It became a publicly-traded company in 1956 with the most extensive initial public offering of that time. It is the 12th company in the 2020 Fortune 500 list, and also holds a position in the 2020 Fortune Global 500 list. As of 2020, it trades in the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol F. It is a component in both S&P 500 and S&P 100 indices.
