About the Company

Eaton Corporation is a multinational power management company. It is an American Irish-domiciled firm, with its operational headquarters in Ohio, the United States, and corporate headquarters in Dublin, Ireland. As of 2020, it operates in two business sectors: Industrial and Electrical, and in over 175 countries. It has operations in vastly diverse markets, such as aerospace, rail, residential, healthcare, government and military, food & beverage, mining and minerals and oil and gas, among others. Eaton extends its products and services to major departments of the US government, like the Federal Aviation Administration (FDA), Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defence, Department of Energy as well as the Department of State. Eaton Corporation shares trade under the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) with the ticker symbol of ETN. Eaton is also an S&P 500 company with ETN stocks as a component of this index. The company traces its corporate roots to the Torbensen Gear and Axle Co., founded in 1911. After numerous mergers and name-changes, the company adopted its current name, Eaton, in 1971. Its namesake is Joseph O. Eaten, co-founder of Torbensen Gear and Axle Co. One of its largest acquisitions took place in 1994 when Eaton acquired Westinghouse Electric Corp’s control and distribution units for a purchase price of $1.1 billion. In 2003, it purchased the electrical division of Delta PLC in a transaction of $205 million. With this acquisition, it included Delta’s brands, like MEM, Bill, Alek and others, in its nameplate. ETN acquired Schneider Electric’s MGE small systems business for $612 million in 2007 and became one of the largest suppliers of power protection solutions worldwide. In 2012, ETN acquired the Ireland-based company Cooper Industries for $13 billion, which was Eaton’s largest acquisition in history, as of 2020. ETN, through this acquisition, emerged as a premier global power management company and renamed itself to Eaton Corporation PLC. Fortune Magazine named Eaton Corporation as one of the World’s Most Admired Companies in 2019. As of 2020, ETN had amassed numerous brands under its portfolio, like Cooper Wiring Devices, Aphel Technologies, Aeroquip, Ultronics, Ephesus Lighting, to name some. It ranked 339th on Forbes list of Global 2000 companies. Forbes also included ETN in its lists of America’s Best Employers by State and Best Employers for Women in 2020.
