About the Company
Headquartered in Redwood City California, Equinix is an MNC that engages in internet connections and data centres. It is a global leader in colocation data centre market share and records 210 data centres in about 25 countries across five continents, allowing its customers to interconnect and integrate everything to achieve unprecedented growth in their digital future.
The history of the company dates back to 1988 when Jay Adelson and Al Avery founded it. The firm advertised its data centre platform as a neutral floor allowing the competing network share and connect data traffic, naming the venture as the Network Effect. This allowed each new consumer to increase the platform’s attraction multifold. Soon in 2002, the company expanded to the Asia Pacific by merging with i-STT, which was Singapore Technologies Telemedia’s internet infrastructure subsidiary. This allowed the company to establish its presence in China, Australia, Singapore and Japan.
Further, Equinix also solidified its presence in the European market with a $2 billion international expansion venture and acquiring the data centre operator IXEurope alongside its facilities. Following this, Equinox established its 50th data centre in Europe in 2010 and almost increase the value of its data centre portfolio by three times. The company also opened new data centres in Dallas, Sydney and Tokyo in 2016 and came to acquire Itonic in 2017, thereby increasing its data centre footprint in Spain and Portugal. Currently, Equinix’s data centres are located in 55+ significant metros across the world.
