About the Company

With headquarters in California’s Rosemead, Edison International is a public utility company. As of 2020, it had a workforce of almost 13,000 employees, serving around 15 million consumers from a 50,000 square-mile area of coastal, central and southern California. It has two subsidiaries to serve its customers - Southern California Edison and Edison Energy. SCC is the subsidiary that offers consumers electric utilities; it is one of the United States’ largest electric utilities as well as a long-time leader in energy efficiency and renewable energy. Edison Energy is an independent service and advisory company that is capable of integrating and developing a vast range of energy solutions for big players in the US. While SSC is based in Rosemead, Energy Edison is located in Irvine, California. It has been consistently featured in the Fortune 500 list and holds the 259th rank as of 2020. Forbes has also recognised Edison International in its list several times. Like in 2020, the company made it to the Forbes Global 2000 and Best Employer for Diversity lists. It was indexed in the S&P 500 list on 4th March 1957, and it trades under EIX in the New York Stock Exchange. EIX’s origin started in 1886 when Holt and Knupp became partners and started a company that later became the Visalia Electric Light and Gas Company. In the same year, another forerunner of Edison International was established called Santa Barbara Electric Light Company. These two companies merged in the early 1900s and formed Southern California Edison Company. Its next significant merger was in 1964 when SCE merged with California Electric Company. By 1989, it ventured into the international market and opened its first operation outside the US, in London. In 1995, it acquired First Hydro, located in Wales, UK and the next year it changed its name to Edison International. Over the following decades, as of 2020, the company has undertaken several new projects for better sustainability of non-renewable resources and the use of clean energy.
