Electronic Arts or EA is a video game company based in Redwood City, California. With a workforce of 9,700 employees, it is one of the largest gaming companies in Europe and America as of 2020. Currently, it publishes and develops games of its established franchises such as Medal of Honor, Dead Space, Dragon Army, Need of Speed, Battlefield, etc. As of the same year, it also had five labels under its name - SEED, EA all Play, EA Worldwide Studios, EA Competitive Gaming Division and EA Sports.
It develops games for five different platforms - mobile phones, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and computers. The company has more than 20 gaming studios under it such as Firemonkey, Bioware, Capital Games, Maxis, Criterion, Motive, Pogo, Respawn Entertainment, Red Crow, etc. EA has developed some of the most renowned video games in the world. Few of its featured games include The Sims series, Madden NFL 21, Star Wars Aquadrones, Apex Legends, FIFA 21 and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered. It also develops games under a partnership with independent studios from around the world. Some of these games include Lost in Random, Unravel Two, It Takes Two, Sea of Solitude, Titanfall 2, A way Out, Fe, and Rocket Arena.
The company was founded in 1982 by Trip Hawkins, a former Apple employee in San Mateo, California. Over the next few decades, it developed its hold in the market and developed some of its primary projects. From 1999 it not only changed its headquarters and shifted to Redwood shore, but also began a new era of expansion. Since 1999-2020 it has acquired numerous companies - Pogo Studios in 2001, Criterion Games in 2004, DICE in 2006, BioWare in 2007, Capital Games in 2011, Firemonkeys Studios in 2012 and Respawn Entertainment in 2017.
It is both an S&P 500 and NASDAQ 100 component that trades under the symbol EA in the NASDAQ stock exchange.
