About the Company

Founded in 1925 under the name Huff Daland Dusters, Delta Air Lines, Inc. is one of the most popular airlines in the US. Delta, along with its subsidiaries, operates over 5000 flights on a regular basis and is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. As of 2020, it served over 300 destinations in more than 50 countries worldwide. Delta shares are traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker symbol “DAL”. DAL has a total of 9 hubs in locations such as Boston, Seattle, and Detroit. However, based on the total number of passengers and departures, Atlanta is the largest among all its hubs. In 1929, DAL’s passenger operations started from Dallas to Jackson, Mississippi, which included two stops in Monroe and Shreveport. Within a year, Delta managed to extend its services in Atlanta and Fort Worth. In 1997, DAL achieved an incredible milestone when it became the first airline to board over 100 million passengers in a single year. Furthermore, that year Delta extended its services in Latin America. Six years later, it launched a low-cost carrier named Song, which targeted the leisure traffic between Florida and the north-eastern part of the USA. Song garnered great popularity for its economical prices, comfortable leather seating, sufficient leg space, luxury facilities and personal screens. Song operated as a separate brand from 2003 to 2006. In August 1972, DAL acquired Northeast Airlines following which it gained access to new markets such as Boston. Delta also incorporated the Boeing 727 into its fleet, which it did not operate before the acquisition. In October 2008, DAL acquired Northwest Airlines for $2.6 billion and formed an enterprise worth $17.7 billion. Wall Street Journal declared Delta Air Lines, Inc. as the best US airline in 2019 and ranked them no. 1 on their annual list. DAL also holds the 68th position on the list of Fortune 500 companies. Moreover, at Business Travel Awards, Delta Air Lines, Inc. was awarded The Best Long-haul Airline award (a prestigious award in the UK) for the second consecutive year.;
