About the Company

Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX) is a multinational energy enterprise based in California, United States. It traces its roots to the Standard Oil Company of California (SoCal), which was one of the ‘Seven Sisters’ companies that dominated the global oil industry in the early 20th century. In 1984, the Standard Oil Company of California acquired Gulf Oil, which was the largest merger in history at the time. In 2005, it changed its legal name to Chevron Corporation. As of 2020, it was one of the top energy companies in the world. Chevron stocks trade on the New York Stock Exchange as CVX. CVX stock is a component of multiple stock market indices such as DJIA, S&P 500 as well as the S&P 100. The company operates internationally in countries like Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Brazil, South Korea, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Australia, Angola, Iraq, Canada, Venezuela, and China, among several others. CVX is engaged in all aspects of energy production like exploration, refining, transportation, supplying, sales and power generation. Over its years of operation, the company has made several notable acquisitions. In 2000, it acquired Texaco, Inc. in a transaction of $36 billion in stocks, which created a combined market capitalisation of approximately $100 billion. Chevron Corporation bought off Unocal Corp in 2005 for a purchase price of $17.9 billion. The latest addition to its list of acquisitions, as of 2020, took place on October 5th, 2020, when CVX completed the $12 billion acquisition of Nobel Energy. In 2018, Chevron became a member of the Oil & Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI) Climate Investment Fund, a consortium that aims to accelerate industry response to climate change. As support towards humanitarian efforts during the 2019 pandemic, the company contributed more than $12 million worldwide. As of 2020, CVX ranked 15th on the list of Fortune 500 companies. It ranked 61st on Forbes’ list of Global 2000 companies. It was also included on several rankings by Forbes’, including Best Employers for Diversity, Best Employers for Women, World’s Best Employers, and Just Companies 2021.;
