About the Company

Cooper Companies is a multinational company that offers a wide range of medical products and services. It is branded as CooperCompanies and operates through two business units, namely CooperSurgical (CSI) and CooperVision (CVI). CooperSurgical supplies over 600 products for medical use, especially for women and children. Its portfolio comprises medical devices, fertility and genomic products for the global healthcare market. On the other hand, CooperVision is a global leader in the industry of contact lenses. It offers vision corrections for common conditions like astigmatism as well as for more challenging issues like childhood myopia and irregular cornea. The company was incorporated in 1958 as Martin H. Smith Co. Subsequently, in 1961, it changed its name to Cooper Tinsley Laboratories, and to Cooper Laboratories, Inc. in 1967. During its early years of operation, the company focused on oral and skincare. It expanded its product portfolio to include contact lenses and surgical products after it acquired GlobalVision, a British lens-making company, in 1972. The company renamed itself to The Cooper Companies in 1987. It is headquartered in California, US. CooperCompanies stocks trade on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) as COO. COO shares are also a component of the S&P 500 index. COO has continued to grow in the healthcare industry through key product development and strategic acquisitions. Its largest acquisition, as of 2020, took place in 2014 when COO acquired Sauflon Pharmaceuticals Limited for approximately $1.2 billion. In 2017, it purchased the PARAGARD® Intrauterine Device (IUD) from Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., for $1.1 billion. Another major acquisition followed in 2018 when it acquired The LifeGlobal Group, a leading provider of in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) devices globally, for $125 million. CooperCompanies ranked 1607th on Forbes list of Global 2000 2020. As of 2020, COO operates internationally including countries like Brazil, Austria, Belgium, China, Costa Rica, Netherlands, Malaysia, Russia, South Korea, Turkey and Sweden, among several others.;
