About the Company
Headquartered in Newport Beach, California Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. is an American chain of restaurants specialising in fast food. As of 2020, it had restaurants in over 50 locations across Canada, the United States and Europe. It had a workforce of 83,000 employees across different locations. It trades under the ticker symbol CMG in the New York Stock Exchange.
CMG is particularly famous for Mexican food items like tacos, burritos, quesadilla, salad, burrito bowls, etc. It offers both a pre-arranged menu and customised dining options to its customers. It further uses 53 different types of organic ingredients to prepare its dishes and the key element in all of them is a type of dried Jalapeno called Chipotle. The brand also got its name from this signature ingredient. Among its other primary ingredients are five types of meat, two kinds of rice, and an array of toppings such as guacamole, fajita vegetables, fresh tomato salsa etc.
Chipotle has started a reward program where its customers can earn points for purchasing through a registered account. These points can be redeemed to buy burritos for free – with every 1250 points giving a free burrito. It also accepts catering requests for 6-200 people and group orders for up to 20. In its website and app, CMG has a nutrition calculator to help its customers plan their meals better.
The company was founded by Steve Ells in 1993 when he started the first-ever Chipotle Mexican Grill in Denver, Colorado. By 1998, McDonald’s had started to invest in this food chain, until in 2006 when it fully divested itself from Chipotle. In 2008 Chipotle Mexican Grill started its first restaurant outside the United States, in Toronto. As of 2020, it had three subsidiaries under its name - ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen, Pizzeria Locale and Tasty Made.;
