CF Industries Holdings, Inc. is a global manufacturer and distributor of hydrogen and nitrogen products with customers from both the industrial and agricultural sectors. Headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois, they have nine efficient and cost-effective manufacturing units in leading countries like the US, Canada, and the UK. The shares of this company are traded on the NYSE stock exchange under the ticker symbol “CF”.
CF was incorporated in 1946 under the name Central Farmers Fertilizer Company, a federation of regional agricultural supply cooperatives. In 2002, the company was converted into a joint-stock company, following which it made an initial public offering in 2005.
CF carries out its phosphate mining and production operations in Central Florida and facilitates the distribution of plant nutrients through a well-organised system of warehouses and terminals. CF has an ownership of 50% interest in various plant nutrients manufacturing companies like GrowHow UK Limited in the UK and KEYTRADE AG in Thalwil, Switzerland.
In 2013, CF acquired Canadian Fertilizers Ltd for a cash consideration of approximately $910 million. This led to an increase of CF’s marketable nitrogen volume by 425,000 gross tons of ammonia and 275,000 tons of urea. In 2015, the company collaborated with OCI NV and started a joint venture with CHS Inc. to accelerate the growth of their business both domestically and globally.
In 2018, CF Industries Holdings, Inc. acquired all the remaining units of Terra Nitrogen Company, LP. Then onwards, CF had full ownership of its Verdigris Nitrogen Complex located in Oklahoma. In the same year, CF ranked 1885th on Forbes’ annual list of the world’s largest public companies. CF sold 19.5 million tons of products in 2019 and managed to yield an annual shareholder return of 13%.;
