The shares of the company are traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker symbol “CERN”.
CERN has a wide range of products, including the likes of Cerner Millennium, an EHR platform. It allows clinicians and hospitals to access all data related to a patient’s health in real-time. Cerner PowerChart is another popular EHR product that streamlines clinical workflow.
CERN was established in 1979 under the name PGI & Associates. Five years later, it was renamed Cerner. In the following year, it went public with its shares. In 2013, CERN made history when it joined forces with Children’s National Health System to establish – The Bear Institute, USA’s first pediatric health informatics institute.
Since its inception, Cerner Corp. has acquired over 15 companies. In 2009, CERN acquired IMC Healthcare, Inc. and extended its services to pharmacies and outside of commercial employers. Later, in 2014, CERN announced its will to acquire Siemens Health Services, a subsidiary of Germany’s Siemens AG. Next year, CERN sealed the deal for $1.3 billion.
A year later, the company received its first United States Department of Defense contract worth $4.3 billion. Owing to the stipulations in the contract, CERN’s EHR platform replaced the existing health IT system, which was installed in 55 hospitals and more than 300 clinics worldwide.
Over the years, CERN has received numerous awards for its contributions to healthcare. It received an award from Fortune for being one of the most admired companies in the world. Forbes also awarded CERN the accolade of being the most innovative company in America. In 2020, Cerner Corp. ranked 498th on Fortune’s 500 list.;
