About the Company

Founded in 1973, Chicago Global Markets is a publicly-traded company that owns Board Options Exchange, also known as CBOE. It is USA’s largest options exchange and as of 2014 had an annual trading volume of around 1.27 billion contracts. It is located at 400 South LaSalle Street in Chicago and is owned by CBOE Global Markets. The company operates in 12 locations spread across the United Kingdom, Netherlands, China, Singapore, Canada and the United States. It offers products under three segments, namely, futures, indices and options. Under ‘Options’ it has an array of offerings like CBOE Volatility Index (VIX), Weeklys, Exchange Traded Product, FLEX and Single Stocks. It has five products under ‘Futures’ including AMERIBOR, CBOE Mini Volatility Index, S&P 500 Variance, CBOE Volatility Index Futures and Corporate Bond Indices. The four ‘Indices’ products are Social Media, Other Volatility, Strategy Benchmark and VIX. CBOE also specialises in strategies for beginners, intermediate and advanced levels, as well as, product-specific strategies and its flagship, LEAPS strategies. It operates in markets such as European equities, US options, foreign exchange, US futures, US equities, etc. It was the first marketplace ever made for trading listed options, and within a decade it created the S&P 100 (OEX) and S&P 500 (SPX), two options based on board stock indices. In 1985, it formed its educational arm called The Options Institute, which was created to educate worldwide investors about options. From 1990-2000 it launched Leaps, CBOE Volatility Index, Flexible Exchange (FLEX), NASDAQ 100 Index list, Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJX) and ROS. As of 2017, it has launched and created several more such products and indices. On June 15th 2010, it entered the NASDAQ stock exchange under the ticker symbol of CBOE. CBOE is also an S&P 500 component. From 2015 to 2017 it made three significant acquisitions, namely LiveVol in 2015, Vest Financial in 2016 and BATS Global Markets in 2017.;
