Citigroup, Inc. is a global investment bank and financial services corporation. In 1998, Citicorp and Travellers Group merged in a $140 billion deal, which established this company as the world’s largest financial services organisation. Citigroup, Inc. is headquartered in New York, United States and operates in various regions across the globe, namely Asia Pacific, North America, Latin America as well as Europe, Middle East and Africa. Citigroup shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker symbol, C. C stock is a component on the S&P 500 index and S&P 100 index.The company is included on the list of globally systemically important banks (G-SIB), which comprises organisations that are too big to fail. Citigroup provides a broad range of financial services and products to a diverse group of consumers. Its clientele comprises individuals, institutions, corporations and governments around the world. It operates through two core businesses, namely Global Consumer Banking (GCB) and Institutional Clients Group. Citigroup has numerous subsidiaries, such as Citi Private Bank, Citigroup Global Markets, Inc., Banamex and Beymen, among others. In 2011, Citi became the first bank to introduce Smart Banking branches in Tokyo, Japan; Busan, South Korea; and Washington DC and New York, US. It is also the first as well as the only international bank, as of 2020 that issued credit cards under its own brand name in China without cooperating with its state-owned domestic banks. It acquired the European American Bank in a $6.9 billion purchase and expanded its presence in 2001. Another major acquisition followed in 2004 when it bought-off the KorAm Bank for $2.6 billion. In 2006, Citigroup acquired Quilter Cheviot, one of the UK’s largest and most respected advisory firms with over £5.8bn assets under management (AUM). It acquired two companies in 2007 – Automated Trading Desk for $680 million and Bisys Group, Inc. for $1.45 billion. As of 2020, Citigroup, Inc. is one of the largest banking institutions in the US as well as around the world. It ranked 31st on the list of Fortune 500 companies and 18th on Forbes’ Global 2000 list. Forbes also included it in many of its prestigious rankings in 2020, such as the World’s Best Employers, Best Employers for Veterans, Best Employers for Women, World’s Most Valuable Brands and Just Companies 2021.;
