As of 2020, the company had 99 operations located in 24 countries around the world such as India, China, France, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Mexico, South Korea, Germany, the United States of America etc.
The company has a workforce of over 48,000 employees and serves in markets like off-highway, light vehicles, aftermarket and medium & heavy-duty ones. It offers vehicles with technologies under three categories, including electric technologies, combustion technologies and hybrid technologies.
BorgWarner also has thirteen aftermarket programs that they have curated with the aim to enhance the present vehicle industry. Some of these programs are AWD coupling spare parts, vehicle electronics and engine management, exhaust gas management, starters & alternators, gasoline fuel systems, diagnostics, training & technical support, diesel fuel systems, etc.
While it was officially incorporated in 1928, the company’s origin dates back to 1880 when Morse Equalizing Spring Company was founded. From 1880 through 1992 the company took many steps to build the foundation for BorgWarner Corporation with aid from founding companies including Marvel-Schebler, Warner Gear, Mechanics Universal Joint and Borg & Beck.
In 1993, Borg-Warner Automotive spun off from the main company and started its journey as an independent one. Over the years it has formed two subsidiary companies that are BorgWarner Drivetrain Group and BorgWarner Engine Group. The former deals in TorqTransfer Systems and Transmission Systems, while the latter offers Thermal Systems, Morse Systems, Turbo Systems, Beru AG and Emissions Systems.
This S&P 500 company trades in the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol BWA. It has also been recognised by many prestigious organisations over the years for its innovations. For instance, in 2015, it received PACE Innovation Award; its R3S turbocharging system for diesel engines won the Automotive News PACE Award in 2013. The same year, it also won an Innovation Partnership Award.;
