The company offers its services in the fields of industrial technology, digital transformation, remote operations, methane monitoring & verification, low carbon technology, subsea connect, liquefied natural gas, alternative energy and carbon capture & storage.
Baker Hughes’ offers oil and gas industry products and services related to oil drilling, completion, formation evaluation, reservoir consulting and production. It offers products and services under four distinct divisions - Software & Analytics, Oilfield, Turbomachinery/Process Solution and Measurement, Testing & Controls. It also offers Baker Hughes Digital Solutions that consists of six unique brand solutions, which are Bently Nevada, Panametrics, Reuter-Stokes, Nexus Controls, Waygate Technologies and Druck.
The company’s origin dates back to 1907 and was formed with several mergers over a long span of time. It gets its name from the two main companies Hughes Tool Company and Baker Oil Tool Company. It was in 1987, when the Baker International company acquired Hughes Tool Company, resulting in the formation of Baker Hughes incorporate.
Another major milestone for the company was when it merged with General Electrics in 2017. However, in 2019 it bought the majority of GE’s shares and gained independent authority over GE Oil and Gas. Over the years it has acquired Tri-State and Wilson companies 1990, Teleco Oilfield Services in 1992, Western Atlas in 1998, OCRE Ltd. in 2001, Cornerstone Pipeline Inspection Group in 2003 etc.
This S&P 500 company had around 58,000 employees around the world as of 2020 and even managed to have 191 consecutive HSE days in 2019. It trades under the symbol BKR in the New York Stock Exchange for more than three decades.;
