About the Company

Atmos Energy Corporation (NYSE: ATO) is one of the largest natural-gas-only distributors of the United States. It offers clean and safe energy that is both efficient and affordable. As of 2020, Atmos Energy Corp. served over 3 million customers across eight states of the US. It also manages proprietary storage assets and pipelines across the country. ATO owns one of the largest intrastate pipeline systems for natural gas in Texas, US. Its history dates back to the early 1900s. ATO traces its roots to the Amarillo Gas Company, which was later acquired by Southwestern Development Company. This company consolidated its diverse businesses under the Pioneer Natural Gas Company, which formed the Energas Company in 1981. In 1998, Energas renamed itself as Atmos Energy Corporation and Atmos Energy share began trading on New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). ATO stocks reached their highest closing stock price of $120.57 on February 18th, 2020. It is a component on the S&P 500 index as well as the Dow Jones Utility Average (DJUA). Its net worth stood at $12.46 billion in 2020. The company is headquartered in Dallas, Texas, and has offices in Arlington, Denver, Hopkins, Franklin and six other locations across the US. In 2004, Atmos Energy Corporation acquired TXU Gas Company for $1.925 billion in cash. With this major acquisition, ATO expanded its business operations and became the largest pure-play company of natural gas distribution in the US. In 2012, it sold its operations in Illinois, Missouri and Iowa to Liberty Utilities Co., a Canadian company. Atmos Energy also sold off its natural gas operations in Georgia to Liberty Utilities for $140.7 million in 2013. The company, with revenues of $4.9 billion, made its debut on the list of Fortune 500 companies in 2006. In 2016, it became a partner in the Methane Challenge Program by the Environmental Protection Agency. ATO donated $1.5 million to feed students and families affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Over the years, Atmos Energy Corp has emerged as an equal opportunity employer. Forbes recognised ATO as one of the Best Employers in America in 2015, 2018, as well as 2020. As of 2020, ATO held 1456th rank on Forbes’ list of Global 2000 companies.;
