About the Company
Established in 1982, Aon Plc is an Irish Domicile, Anglo American global professional services firm headquartered in London, United Kingdom. It was incorporated with the merger between Combined Insurance Company of America and Ryan Insurance Group, which took place the same year.
However, its origin dates back to 1918 when W. Clement Stone’s mother invested in a small Detroit based insurance agency. Stone soon sold this agency and started his own in 1919 called the Combined Registry Co.
In 1982, the company merged with Ryan Insurance Co., and after 5 years, its name was changed to Aon. As of 2020, the company has more than 50,000 employees and operations running in about 120 countries like Austria, Barbados, Chile, India, Hong Kong, Colombia, China, France, Peru, etc.
Aon sells an array of financial risk mitigation products, including health insurance, pension administration, and other insurance plans. It also offers five different categories of solutions to its clients, Data & Analytic Service, retirement Solutions, Commercial Risk Solutions, Health Solutions, and Reinsurance Solutions.
Over the span of 2007 to 2020, it announced 13 major acquisitions, among which the most recent merger happened with Willis Towers Watson for an approximate amount of $30 billion in an all-stock deal. Its most substantial acquisition to date was in 2010 when it bought Hewitt Associates for $4.9 billion. The company is also the principal sponsor of the football club Manchester United after it signed an 8-year long contract with the club in April 2013 for almost $236 million.
It is an S&P 500 indexed company that is listed Class A in the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol AON. On February 19th, 2020, AON share prices touched historic heights and reached $237.43.
Aon won several prestigious awards like Fiduciary Manager of the Year and Investment Consultancy of the Year in 2014 at FT’s Pension and Investment Provider Awards. In the 2013 Corporate Equality Index by Human Rights Champaign, Aon received a perfect score. It also secured a position in the 2012 Mother’s Working List of 100 Best Companies.;
