About the Company

Amazon.com, Inc. is an American e-commerce company that offers a diverse range of products and services. Founded in 1994, it started out as an online marketplace for books. Over the years, its product portfolio steadily expanded, and the company emerged as a multinational conglomerate. Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, Amazon focuses on online retail of a vast array of more than 12 million products. It also offers cloud computing, an over-the-top (OTT) streaming platform called Amazon Prime Video as well as an AI virtual assistant named Alexa. The Wall Street Journal named Amazon as one of The Four Horsemen of Big Tech in 2017. Over the years, Amazon retained this market position as a tech giant and one of the Big Five companies in the United States. Its business experienced a surge in online sales during the Covid-19 pandemic. Amazon.com was visited by more than 2 billion people each month from December 2019 to September 2020. This increase in visits was reflected in its revenue and market capitalisation. Amazon reported revenue collection of $96.1 billion in its third quarter of fiscal 2020. In the same year, it was touted as an industry leader with a market share of 49% in US e-commerce. AMZN stock was one of the five largest stocks that accounted for 20% in the S&P 500 market cap. The company was valued at $1.7 trillion and its CEO, Jeff Bezos, was the richest man in the world with a net worth of $113 million. As of 2020, Amazon ranked 22nd on Forbes’ Global 2000 and 2nd on the list of Fortune 500 companies. It ranked 1st on the American Customer Satisfaction Index, retaining its spot in top 10 for the eleventh consecutive year. AMZN was also named as one of the Most Valuable Brands by Forbes’ and Best Global Brands by Interbrand in 2020. The company, with a global headcount of more than 1.2 million workers in 2020, has created more jobs than any other Big Five companies. It is the only Big Five tech company that includes part-time workers in its employee count. AMZN is also involved in philanthropy through three key areas, namely Hunger & Homelessness Aid, Disaster Relief and Education. The company donated $20 million towards Covid-19 testing and research. In 2020, the Amazon founder donated $10 billion to combat climate change.;
