AMETEK, Inc. is an American enterprise that manufactures electromechanical devices and electronic instruments. The company was founded in 1930 as American Machine and Metals. In subsequent years, the company evolved from a provider of heavy machinery to a manufacturer of speciality materials, components and analytical instruments. This transition was also reflected in its name, which was changed to AMETEK in the 1960s. Headquartered in Pennsylvania, United States, the company operates internationally with over 200 manufacturing sites worldwide. Its global offices are located in several countries around the world, such as Italy, France, India, China, Japan, Brazil, South Korea, UAE and more. As of 2020, AMETEK had a broad range of businesses including Advanced Motion Solutions, Chemical Products, Aerospace and Defence (OEM and MRO), Speciality Metal Products, and Engineered Medical Components, among several others. The company has a history of acquisitions that date back to the late 1990s. It has made more than 80 acquisitions since 2000. In 2019, AMETEK acquired Gatan, leading manufacturer of software and instruments, for $925 million. The company then acquired IntelliPower as part of its Electronic Instruments Group (EIG) for approximately $115 million in 2020. The National Institute of Manufacturer (NAM) awarded Rauland, a business unit of AMETEK, Inc., “Manufacturing Leadership Award 2019” for its operational excellence. With a market value of $19.2 billion, AMETEK is one of the Fortune 500 companies and also ranks on Forbes’ list of Global 2000. The company also offers a range of solutions that aim to safeguard the environment. It has developed SPECTRO – a specialised instrument to detect trace elements in water and wastewater; WDG-V Combustions Analyzer, which analyses harmful fuel emissions from industrial facilities; CreaForm’s Pipecheck, that prevents hazardous leaks from pipelines, and several devices of the kind. AMETEK shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange as AME. The company is also included in the S&P 500 index as well as Russell-1000 index. As of 2020, its net worth was pegged at $26.24 billion.;
