Founded in 1887, the company was first called Albemarle Paper Manufacturing Company. With few employees, it started its business of producing Kraft and blotting paper. In 1962, it purchased Ethyl Corporation, which is almost 13 times its size and established Ethyl Corporation, Virginia.
It is in 1998 that Albemarle formed a joint venture with Arab Potash Company and Jordan Dead Sea Industries Company and manufactured bromine and bromine derivatives at a global scale. As of 2020, they are one of the worldwide leaders in this industry and aims to incorporate sustainability in their workflow.
In May 2020, it ranked 683 as per Fortune rankings and was listed in the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol ALB. The ALB share price touched historic heights on November 8th, 2017, when it reached $144.58.;
