About the Company

Headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, AES Corporation is a major electric power generator and distributing company. Founded in 1981, it is one of the world’s leading power companies with operations across 15 countries and a worldwide workforce of 10,500. AES has worked towards becoming eco-friendly since 1989 by creating the first documented carbon offset program in the US. It planted over 50 million trees in Guatemala to offset the emission of harmful gases from its plant in Connecticut. As of 2020, it has launched a first of its kind energy-storing facility in Chile; it has also invested in accelerating the availability and accessibility of solar power. The company has properties and subsidiaries in several parts of North America, Brazil, UK, Argentina, Chile, United Kingdom, Bulgaria, Jordan, Netherlands, Kazakhstan, India, Vietnam and Philippines. Launched in January 2018, Fluence is a joint venture between Siemens and AES Energy Storage. This venture focuses on developing and expanding energy storing technologies and services. It aims to optimise the potential of lithium-ion powered energy sources by implementing AES’s extensive research. Siemens’s global authority over the industry will help address its rapidly growing demand. In 2007, AES won its first-ever Edison Electric Institute Award for a systematic performance improvement with its business in Latin America. Since then it has won this award five more times together with, Philippines, Chile, Cameron, Netherlands, and KIUC in Kauai. The company was also recognised for its efficient workforce and acquired a position in Fast Company’s list of the Best Workplace For Innovators in the year 2020. The same year it was recognised by Ethisphere Institute as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies for the 7th time in a row. AES began trading on the New York Stock Exchange in 1991, and within 9 years earned a spot in the S&P 500 list. The highest AES share price was $70.63, as valued on 2nd October 2000.;
