Though Ameren Corporation was founded in 1997, its origin dates back to 1929 when the construction of Bagnell Dam was finished on Osage River for Union Electric Company, Missouri. Also, in 1952, its second prime constituent, the Central Illinois Public Service Company became a key pooled energy power distributor with UEC.
In 1995, these two paramount companies approved their merger and formed the Ameren Corporate. It took almost 2 years to complete the necessary formalities, and on 31st December 1997, Ameren was incorporated. Over the years, the company has seen major acquisitions and mergers that have helped it to become an influential entity in both Missouri and Illinois.
Ameren started an Innovation Centre at the Research Park of the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in 2015 and became the first major energy company to initiate such an undertaking. It also ranked 10th on Business Insider’s list of 10 best companies to work for in America. The report reflected that 74% of its employees believed that their job has high meaning.
