The Russell 2000 index is a small-cap stock market index of the smallest 2000 stocks on the index. This was started by the Frank Russell Company in the year 1984. This index is maintained by FTSE Russell, and it is also a subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange Group. It is also one of the most common benchmarks for mutual funds that identify themselves as small-cap. Among them is the Russell 2000 iShares ETF as one of the most notable exchange traded funds. It seeks to track the investment of the results of the Russell 2000 index that measures the performance of the small-capitalization sector of the United States equity market, and it generally invests in 80% of the assets in constituent securities of its index and in the investments that have the economic features that are substantially similar to the component securities of the underlying index, that is the depository receipts representing securities of the index. The fund may also invest 20% of the assets in certain futures, options, and swap cash, contracts, and cash equivalents.;
