It provides numerous night vision solutions to Smart Cities alongside industries like marine, public safety, defence, security, automotive, outdoor, research & development, etc. In comparison, its products are limited to industries, namely marine, home & outdoor, industrial, government & defence, camera modules & components, public safety & transportations, security and professional tools. Some of its featured products include FLIR GF77, FLIR VS290-32, FLIR Vue TZ20, FLIR A500-EST, FLIR C5, FLIR One Pro LT and Firefly DL. Its system recognises biological, chemical explosive and radiation detection.
The company was founded to pioneer the development of an affordable, high-performing infrared imaging system for airborne applications. Its name FLIR is an acronym of “forward-looking infrared” and puts most of its attention on thermal imaging as of 2020. It became a publicly owned company in 1993 with an initial public offering and started trading with an initial share price of $12.50. It started to trade in the NASDAQ stock exchange under the ticker symbol FLIR and as of 2020 is a component in the S&P 500 index.
In the last two decades, FLIR has made several significant acquisitions in the industry, such as Extech Instruments Corp. in 2007, Ifara Technology in 2008, Directed Perceptions in 2009, Raymarine in 2010, Lorex Technology in 2012, DVTL I 2015, Point Grey Research and Prox Dynamics in 2016 and Aeryon Labs in 2019. As of 2020, it has two headquarters, one in Oregon and another in Arlington, Virginia. It also has R&D and manufacturing facilities in Goleta, Rosh Ha’ayin, Freeport, Oak Ridge, Fareham, North Billerica, Tallin etc.
