An income certificate, as the name suggests, is a document that confirms an individual’s or family’s annual income from all sources, including salary, daily earnings, pensions, companies, property income, rent, and overseas remittances. It is a government-issued official document that acts as proof of an individual’s or family’s income. 

After evaluating the applicant’s income certificate application either online or offline, affidavit, and any supporting documents, the official authority will issue an income certificate. It is necessary to obtain government financial assistance or a seat reservation in educational programs.

Income Certificate Apply Online and Offline

Most states have a separate website for such administration-related tasks, which may be used to apply for the certificate. The process would be as follows:

  • To apply for the certificate, go to the relevant State / District web portal.
  • Create an account on the website with a unique username and password protected by the cellphone number.
  • Log in to your account and seek the phrase “Apply for income certificate” or anything similar.
  • This will launch an online application in which your personal information must be entered or uploaded. Among these particulars are:

– Name, age, birthdate, address, sex, and more.

– Ration card, license, Voter’s ID, or other Identity Proof.

– Aadhaar card

– Caste certificate, religion, or sub-caste

– Parents’ income certificate, income tax return, Form 16 by the employer, Salary certificate, etc as proof of income.

– Affidavit that states particulars stated in the application are true.

Track Status

  1. Log in with your cellphone number and pick the ‘Get Status’ page to check the status of your application.
  2. Enter the application number from the acknowledgment receipt, then click Status.

Income Proof Salary Certificate/Statement (for government workers) OR IT Return/Form 16 (for non-government employees) OR IT Return/Affidavit (for self-employed/small company owners)
Address Proof Election Photo ID card / Aadhaar Card / Driving License / Passport / Ration card with Photograph / Photo identity card issued by the Central Government, a State Government, or a Public Sector Undertaking / Pensioner Card with Photograph / any other authorized document issued by the Central Government or the concerned state government.
Identity Proof A self-attested copy of an Aadhaar letter, voter ID card, passport, ration card, LPG card, driver’s license, or any other authorized document issued by the Central Government or the applicable state government.

After obtaining all of the necessary papers, the application must be filed at the local district authority’s office or uploaded online, depending on the infrastructure provided by each state.
