Why am I unable to exit my F&O position?

The reason for not being able to exit your F&O position could be due to the following:

  1. Existing Open Order:

    • If you have an open order for the same contract, cancel it before placing a new exit order.
    • Example: If you hold a +100 position in an F&O contract and have an open stop-loss or limit order, placing an exit order at the market price might create confusion. The system may treat it as a new short position and reject it due to insufficient margin. Cancel the existing order first, then place a new one.
  2. Risk Policy on Expiry Day: As per Groww's risk policy, you cannot exit or take new stock option positions after 2:30 PM on expiry day. All open positions are automatically squared off post 2:30 PM.

  3. Price Limit Hit (Circuit Breakers): If the underlying stock reaches its daily price limit (upper or lower), you may not be able to exit your position. Check the circuit limits on the order card for that day.

  4. Low Liquidity: If the F&O contract has low liquidity, it can be difficult to exit due to a lack of buyers or sellers. This is common for less popular contracts or those nearing expiry.

  5. Margin Shortage: Insufficient margin in your account may prevent you from exiting the position. Ensure your account has enough margin before attempting to exit.
